Ce que j'ai appris aujourd'hui....
What I have learned today
Applying the advice of "things you can do to get smarter"
400 words a day
Dear diary,
Today was Friday - Thanks God.
In the morning, I drove Karine at school and then went to the swimming pool, as usual, but there I spoke with the swimming instructor - his name is Victor - and congratulated him because he always tries to do a good job there. He told me that sport education in Panama is in bad shape, that he is a PE teacher and the Ministry of Educatioon always threaten to remove PE from elementary public school. I told him "what a stupdity"...and he went on talking about how low his pay is and thanks god he can complete with private lessons but mostly during the high season...from December to March. It's like the tour guides, I told him, they also have their good month sand their bad months.
After that I went to the CIAT, my main job, to take care of translations. What did I learn there today?
I learned that the director Miguel P,.. was not satisfied with the translation we provide him for the word "disclosure", which we translate "divulgacion". He wanted something more technical-sounding in Spanish. We didn't find anything more complicated so he didn't get what he wanted, at least not that I know. Revelacion is not acceptable either...
We had the pleasure of having new computers so I learned about windows 8.1
I learned that ny friend Mohammed Shamali in Gaza had 8 nieighbors killed in a bombing and that was a sad piece of news. No, this was not today. But still he is being bombed. And he didn't choose to live there. He just can't get out, same for all the civilians in Gaza. And a cease fired was refused by Israel yesterday.
In the evening, I went to the university and I learned from my colleague Mayra that she is invited to be the new coordinator but that she is not very much interested. She complains - and I agree - that the management of the university is not very well handled.
Finally. at night, I thought about doing a short trip to Belgium by the end of August, to help putting the house in order there, and my wife agreed.
